Ballet provides the building blocks and form required to be successful in all forms of dance as well as several sports. In our ballet classes, students will learn the proper ballet technique, proper body alignment, French terminology as well as the musicality, grace, balance, and strength to perform ballet choreography.

As the student progresses through levels, attention to position of the arms, direction of the body, and increased movement vocabulary is added as well as barre, centre, and across the floor combinations increasing in length and difficulty.

Pink ballet shoes (girls), Black ballet shoes (boys) are required.

These classes teach the fundamentals of hip hop movement. They are upbeat and high energy classes. Stretching, isolations, rhythms, musicality, upper body strength and funky footwork will all be incorporated. Students will learn to memorize choreography by working on a combination each class.

Clean tennis shoes or hip hop shoes required.

Our jazz classes are fun and energetic, with an emphasis on individuality and improvisation. Students will learn the elements of isolation, syncopation, strength, rhythm, contraction and expansion. Classes begin with a warm-up to develop strength, flexibility, correct alignment and coordination, followed by progressions across the floor, and culminate in extended dance combinations. The movement explores a range of styles in both lyrical and percussive disciplines with a focus on jazz elements such as isolations, swing, and rhythm. The goal is to develop dancers who are expressive, dynamic, musical and passionate.

Tan jazz shoes required.

Contemporary Modern

Contemporary Modern is a creative and expressive form of dance that originated as a break-off from the stricter technique of ballet. Students will incorporate aspects from ballet and jazz in our modern classes, with an emphasis on musicality and self-expression. Momentum, gravity, and the uses of weight will be explored while developing a secure sense of placement and strength.  Our classes encourage freedom of movement by researching fluidity and balance as tools for stylistic exploration.

No shoes required.

In tap class, students will learn the fundamental and progressive tap sounds and steps leading to advanced rhythms and syncopation. Emphasis is placed on clarity of tap sounds, weight shifts, and rhythms. Tap is one of the oldest dance forms in this country. Students are taught rhythms, timing, and leg/foot coordination done to various types of music. We teach all types of tap from standard basics like “Singing in the Rain” to funky rhythm tap as seen in “Bring In Da Noise.” Students will receive well-rounded knowledge of all types of tap.

Creative Dance

Creative Dance is a 30 minute class that meets once per week and is designed for the pre-school child age 3-4. This class aims for a moving and rhythmical knowledge of body parts, letter, numbers, shapes, locomotor movements and directional movements. Each dance-song taught has a specific movement and/or rhythmical purpose. As the year progresses, the movements learned in the dance-songs will be combined together and used in a personality song. They will rehearse entrances and exits along with their song for a concert performance. As they are learning to dance, there is an underlying emphasis on strengthening and limbering their bodies to build a dancer body. In this class, there is never a wrong movement. Their own movement is a necessary and purposeful part of their dance learning.

Pink ballet shoes (girls), black ballet shoes (boys) required.

Pre-Ballet/Tap class meets for 45 minutes once per week and is designed for 4-5 year olds.
